Annihilator Fan Accuses Megadeth Of "Ripping Off" Jeff Waters; Waters Responds By Newsferatu, Writer Thursday, September 29, 2005 @ 9:10 AM
Here's the initial post. "Megadeth's Ripping Annihilator Off? To be fair, I know that Annihilator owes to Megadeth much more, as Megadeth (and Mustaine) are at the very root of thrash metal; but the last Megadeth album does sound like Annihilator in more than one place, don't you think? Take for example 'Kick the Chair'. The riffs on that song are pure Annihilator, no bullsh*t! Looks like the root is borrowing from its influenced fruits. BTW, Mustaine should invite Jeff to spit some solos out in his next album, just for fun. I'm gonna try to post this idea in some Megadeth forum, just to see what happens. At the very end it's well known that Mustaine has invited Jeff to join Megadeth more than once, am I right?" Now here is Jeff Waters' response: "My God have you lost your mind??!?! Mustaine the Master pulling ideas from little ole Canadian me??! I highly doubt it. Why would he? He rules! But a funny little aside, I (unknowingly, of course!!!) recycled his title Set The World Afire... to, of course, Set The World On Fire....1.5 years later, King Of The Kill (Annihilator) came out and was very successful. Then Kill The King by Davey was unleashed by Megadeth! Maybe co-incidence (although I doubt mine was! he he!) but he and I like and respect each other's music. I think he has most all my CDs and I sure as heck have all his! Nice guy and one of the most influential riff/songwriters in metal. Ever. Hey that reminds me when a guy from my label Roadrunner called me up in 1990 and said something about Metallica might have changed their new hit song title from 'Never, Neverland' to 'Enter Sandman' (remember the big chorus was "off to never, neverland"), cause some band called Annihilator had a big record out in that name. I don't know if that is true (and i kinda doubt it would ever be admitted to / although who gives a poop anyway!) but a very neat thing if it was the case!"
