SAINTS OF REBELLION
New American Dream

MRI

SAINTS OF REBELLION are a Baltimore, Maryland-based hard rock quartet composed of Coby DeShazo on vocals, John Adams on guitar, Jay Hitaffer on bass and Anthony Hitaffer on drums. Their sound is raw, snarling, spitting, no-frills blues-based rock n roll doused with southern flavor. DeShazo’s Zack Wylde-meets-Bob Seger gritty singing style is what grabs you first when listening to New American Dream, the band’s debut album.

First, I love the overall sound of New American Dream. The production is strong with the drums and vocals high in the mix. You’re kicked in the teeth from the start by the first two songs on the album; the title track, which is one of the best lead-off tracks I’ve heard in a long time, and “Gasoline”, which has attitude to spare. These songs comprise a very strong opening salvo for the album. The ballad “Alone” follows and features piano and organ, and has a very cool LYNYRD SKYNYRD vibe. “Get You Some” has a very heavy groove, while “30 And A 5th” boldly espouses the benefits of a southern lifestyle. I love the lyrics on this song.

Overall, this is a very solid debut album from an up and coming band. Fans of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, BLACK STONE CHERRY, CROWNED BY FIRE and LYNYRD SKYNYRD will definitely enjoy SAINTS OF REBELLION.

3.5 Out Of 5.0
