MOTOR SISTER
Ride

Metal Blade

MOTOR SISTER is a unique band that came together out of fun and not out of necessity. It all started at a birthday party for ANTHRAX’s Scott Ian set up by his wife Pearl. One of Scott’s favorite bands is 90’s blues rockers MOTHER SUPERIOR, who were actually recruited at a time to be the backup band for Henry Rollins. During the time period of 1993 and 2011, they had produced 8 albums, and Ian was indeed a huge fan. During a jam session at Scott’s 50th birthday party with MOTHER SUPERIOR frontman Jim Wilson, the neccesity for MOTOR SISTER was born. Joining the lineup with Scott Ian and his wife Pearl Aday (Daughter Of MEATLOAF. Yes, that MEATLOAF), were fellow metal saints including Joey Vera (FATES WARNING, ARMORED SAINT) and drummer John Tempesta (WHITE ZOMBIE, TESTAMENT, THE CULT) as well as original MOTHER SUPERIOR vocalist Jim Wilson. Apparently, the chemistry at the party was so good that Metal Blade records signed them to a deal on the spot. This is indeed an all star lineup. What we are presented here is a collection of 12 MOTHER SUPERIOR covers dripping with love and sweat.

So, what does the music sound like? MOTOR SISTER is the epitome of brash and raw, yet well produced Rock N’ Roll! I will admit that one of the only reasons I went into this album is because I am a fan of ANTHRAX and Scott Ian, and boy, am I glad that I did! I had never heard the original material before, and it took this supergroup to get my attention. I can definitely see the appeal of the band before. The songs are catchy, gritty and drip with pure love of just playing Rock N’ Roll. Frontman Jim Wilson might not be a well known name around some circles, but his passionate delivery of these songs will make you a fan almost immediately. Check out the first track, “A Hole”, that throws you into the fray balls forward with an in your face brutality that helps prepare you for the rest of the album. Other stand out tracks include “Beg Borrow Steal” as Jim’s vocals work perfectly with Pearl’s addition, and the pure unadulterated Rock N’ Rollness of “Little Motor Sister”.

This album just plain Rocks! It is raw, raucous and a hell of a lot of fun! I am not quite sure where this album fits in the current state of music, but it is definitely most welcomed. Don’t let the caliber of the musicians sway you in any direction, the real star of this album is the music. This album brings music back to a much simpler time so get prepared to rock out with MOTOR SISTER!
