SONS OF APOLLO
Psychotic Symphony

Insideout Music 2017

You know when you get a ‘supergroup’ together that includes the likes of [keyboardist] Derek Sherinian [DREAM THEATER, BILLY IDOL, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION], [bassist] Billy Sheehan [TALAS, DAVID LEE ROTH, MR. BIG, THE WINERY DOGS], [guitarist] Bumblefoot [GUNS N’ ROSES, ART OF ANARCHY], [vocalist] Jeff Scott Soto [YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JOURNEY, SOULSIRKUS] and prolific [drummer] Mike Portnoy [DREAM THEATER, THE WINERY DOGS, and about 100 other bands] you know the project will get a lot of attention. These skilled gentlemen have united their talents to form SONS OF APOLLO, a heavy, progressive metal act that is sure to satisfy your hunger for this style of music. SONS OF APOLLO will release their debut effort Psychotic Symphony on October 20th. While the title might be a tad cliche when you’re releasing music in the metal world---it’s the only thing that’s ‘cringe’ about the band.

It's entirely probable that the band SONS OF APOLLO could have been a recording only project however the band have expressed that they'll all carve time to tour in 2018. SONS OF APOLLO will in fact take part in Cruise To The Edge in February of 2018. Not to be pigeonholed as a ‘progressive rock’ juggernaut this band merges metal, hard rock, melodic rock and of course a helping of progressive rock. Psychotic Symphony features a couple epic, majestic prog monstrosities; which are good and all but it’s stuff like , and The [DEEP] PURPLE influenced “Divine Addiction” which are sure to draw in fans that quite frankly aren't into the ‘overindulgent wankery’ that takes place in prog music.

The biggest surprise on Psychotic Symphony is how seamlessly Bumblefoot shifts into the progressive realm. I’m moderately familiar with Bumblefoot’s work solo in and out of various other bands and this is no question his best work to date. In a perfect world he’d get a nice pop out of this recording. There would be no more “Who's Bumblefoot?” Who knows? It could still happen...this could be the record and band to do that.
