SKILLET is an American Christian rock band formed in 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee. Over the years, they have become one of the most successful Christian rock bands in the mainstream rock scene, known for their energetic performances, powerful messages, and a blend of genres that include hard rock, symphonic rock, and electronic element.

They have drawn comparisons to bands like EVANESCENCE and LINKIN PARK, particularly in their use of both male and female vocals. John Cooper, the lead vocalist and bassist, delivers gritty, powerful vocals, while his wife, Korey Cooper, contributes backing vocals and plays guitar and keyboard, adding another layer to their dynamic sound.

Since their debut, SKILLET has consistently evolved their sound by incorporating electronic elements and expanding their orchestral arrangements while maintaining the core hard rock essence that they are known for. Over time, they have transitioned from more experimental early works to a more polished, mainstream sound.

Although SKILLET is considered a Christian band, their music appeals to both Christian and secular audiences.

SKILLET is one of the most successful Christian rock bands of all time, with a career spanning over two decades and a global fan base. They have received numerous awards, including Grammy nominations, and continue to release albums that resonate with both faith-based and secular audiences. Their consistent presence in the rock scene, coupled with their high-energy live shows, ensures their lasting influence on the genre.

SKILLET on any night is a good night, but this night was even better, opening up for SEETHER at White Oak Music Hall on the outside stage. SKILLET has a new album coming out on Nov 1, 2024 called Revolution.

Opening up with one of their most popular songs "Feel Invincible" and going straight into "Rise" and "Surviving the Game", they were here to ROCK! The crowd was a great mixture of all ages which was so refreshing to see. The Christian band SKILLET does such a great job of bringing an exciting show of rock music and a great message to all. The pyro effects combined with rising platforms, smoke and a light show that would excite even the most laid back concertgoer.

The band consists of the dynamic duo, married couple John Cooper (bass & lead vocals) and Korey Cooper (guitar & keyboards), Seth Morrison (lead guitar) and Jen Ledger (drums and vocals) This Fab Four make up one of my all time favorite bands to listen to and capture live. This band brings the message of faith and positiveness in a way that very few can compete with.

If you're looking for a great show that you can bring your whole family to then SKILLET is your band. I feel like I'm at a rock and roll church retreat.

The amazing song list was:

  • "Feel Invincible"
  • "Rise"
  • "Surviving the Game"
  • "Legendary"
  • "Unpopular"
  • "Awake and Alive"
  • "Hero"
  • "Whispers in the Dark"
  • "Psycho In My Head"
  • "Be Thou My Vision" (Eleanor Hull cover)
  • "Comatose"
  • "Monster"
  • "The Resistance"
Now for the headliner of the night, SEETHER SEETHER has maintained a solid presence in the alternative and hard rock scene for over two decades. With numerous albums, chart-topping singles, and an international following, they have established themselves as a significant force in modern rock.

SEETHER is known for their raw, emotional intensity and the ability to blend heavy post-grunge sounds with deep, introspective lyrics. Their music resonates with listeners by tackling personal struggles, mental health, and social issues, all while delivering powerful guitar riffs and gritty vocals.

While I love their music I had never seen them live so I was pumped. The show started off with the fan favorite "Gasoline" and next up was "Fine Again".

While I'm a huge fan of "Broken", I was not loving the version this night. It was performed with acoustic guitar and very slowly sung. SEETHER is a great band but this night just did not seem like they wanted to be there, but they are human and maybe they were having an off night.

They played the hits and then the ninth song on the setlist was a new song off the new album called "Judas Mind" and I have to say I really liked it. I have not had a chance to listen to the new album The Surface Seems So Far in full yet but I do have it and plan on listening to it.

The thing about SEETHER is they (to me) are a certain mood band. When I'm feeling chill they really fill the bill. When they played "Rise Above This" the place went crazy. Definitely one of my top 5 SEETHER songs.

This night as a photographer the lighting just wasn't there at all but in their defense I have been told that they like it like that and that's their prerogative because it's their show. I just wanted to bring the audience killer pics of a killer band.

They've consistently evolved while staying true to their core sound, which has allowed them to maintain a dedicated fanbase.

I was asked if I would go see them again and the answer is simply YES!! But I would not try to photograph it. SEETHER is a great band with great songs.

The song list:

  • "Gasoline"
  • "Fine Again"
  • "Broken"
  • "Country Song"
  • "Wasteland"
  • "Rise Above This"
  • "Nobody Praying for Me"
  • "Dangerous"
  • "Judas Mind"
  • "Fake It"
  • "Remedy"
